Sculpfun lists LaserGRBL and LightBurn for the S9. LaserGRBL is free but Windows only, and LightBurn is paid. Surfacecraft Burn Studio is free and runs in the browser on any computer: draw or import a design, choose score, engrave or cut, and download GRBL G-code.

What to know about the Sculpfun S9

On a Mac

Sculpfun lists LaserGRBL for Windows and LightBurn for Mac. Burn Studio runs in the browser, so a Mac needs neither to make the G-code.

A fine spot for detail

The S9 is good at fine line work and small text. Use Line for single strokes and Fill for solid letters.

Test before you burn

Run Burn Studio's power and speed grid on a scrap of your material, pick the square you like and save it as a material preset.

From box to first burn

Burn Studio makes the G-code. A sender runs it: LaserGRBL (free, Windows), LightBurn, or Surfacecraft itself over USB with Pro. Wear the glasses that came with your laser.

    Create a free account Open Burn Studio in your browser. Nothing to download.

    Add your laser Pick the Sculpfun S9 preset and set the work area to 410 × 415 mm.

    Make a design Draw shapes and text or import an SVG. Give each one Line (score), Fill (engrave) or Cut.
  4. 04
    Find your settings Run the power and speed test grid on scrap, pick the square you like and save it as a material preset.
  5. 05
    Download and run Focus the laser, zero where the file's header says and run it in your sender.
